Hoofprint Biome represents a new paradigm in solving methane emissions from cattle.
Hoofprint Biome is the only enteric methane solution that uses natural biology, not toxic chemicals

Hoofprint Biome represents a new paradigm in solving methane emissions from cattle.

The vast majority of solutions to solve methane emissions from cattle deploy chemicals. Even the seaweed asparagopsis makes the chemical bromoform from bromine and chlorine in seawater, and its suppression of methane is via bromoform. Recently, the market has shown great concern and pushback on using chemicals, especially in the dairy industry.

Hoofprint instead looks inside the cow rumen itself, where it discovers natural enzymes and peptides that control methanogens.

In this market, farmers can’t pay much for methane reduction, but they will pay for improved “performance,” meaning solutions that increase milk or beef volume. In other words, it’s not enough just to suppress the methanogens – the real winners will be able to improve microbiome efficiency and ultimately steer the rumen to increase the output of volatile fatty acids that are absorbed by the cow.

Leather is one of the most versatile, durable, and desirable materials in fashion. No animal-free replacement has been able to meet the top performance specs, until Gozen. Impossibly thin yet strong, it’s even soft enough to replace high-end lambskin. Designed with scale in mind, they’re already in talks with major leather users to be the material of the future.

CEO Ece Gözen Akin
"The thinness, strength and softness of our leather is unprecedented… it removes all the limits that held back traditional leather.”

Next generation bispecific antibody cancer therapy.
2 out of 3 patients with solid tumors don’t experience a robust anti-tumor response, even with cutting-edge cancer therapies

We have shown in people that our technology expands and activates gamma delta T cells, up to 10,000x better than other known approaches. This profound and durable effect can be harnessed as a monotherapy, or in combination with bispecific T cell engagers (BiTEs). We are at the seed stage with human clinical data to support our approach, significant IP protection, and traction with pharma partners to generate early clinical validation with their bispecific antibodies.

Delivering pathogen testing at the speed of software with one test for all pathogens.
In 2022, it still takes 1-5 days to identify pathogens causing bloodstream infections, when the risk of death increases by 8% for each hour an infection goes without appropriate treatment

Melio is breaking the one-pathogen one-probe paradigm in diagnostics to deliver the unmet holy grail for pathogen testing for bloodstream infections. Melio delivers diagnostic capabilities that is scalable “over the air” with a few universal probes, without making any changes to hardware. We read each pathogen cell in the blood by how its DNA unwinds, melts or denatures. Melio is disrupting the century-old paradigm of slow and inefficient pathogen testing. First, we are bring our product to vulnerable newborn population, where, for the lack of better diagnostics, 150 babies are given antibiotics for every 1 that truly needs it.

CEO Mridu Sinha, PhD
"Rapid pathogen identification tests today compromise on either the sensitivity or breadth of pathogens detected. It takes a truly disruptive approach to break this tradeoff and deliver on the holy grail for bloodstream infections."
Melio has raised $1.2 million from SOSV IndieBio and angel investors

Bio-renewable carbon-negative limestone for decarbonization of portland cement
One in every 12 carbons released in our atmosphere last year came from the production of cement

More info at the IndieBio website

Minus Materials grows carbon-negative, biorenewable limestone – the main feedstock for portland cement manufacturing – using calcifying microalgae called coccolithophores. Our solution yields a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions without changing anything else in the process, and it can be stacked with green clinkering and carbon capture utilization and storage technologies to produce carbon-negative cement.
