Pam Smith is the Associate General Counsel at Geron Corporation. At Geron, Pam is responsible for negotiating contracts, including licenses, research agreements and collaborations, as well as leases and employment agreements. In addition, Pam is a member of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Bar and is closely involved with intellectual property due diligence and freedom to operate assessments at Geron. Pam’s experience includes cutting edge technologies such as stem cells, oligonucleotide therapies, small molecules and antibodies, and she loves “thinking outside the box” to find solutions to unusual issues.
Pam graduated from Cornell Law School and has more than 20 years’ experience in the legal field. She is an experienced Board advisor and regularly counsels on corporate governance and compliance matters. In addition, Pam has an MBA from UC Berkeley, which enables her to consider legal issues through a practical, business lens. Before Geron, Pam worked at Protein Design Labs (now PDL BioPharma) and was a litigator at a San Jose law firm for several years. Pam is a member of the American Intellectual Property Association and the Women’s General Counsel Network.
Pam lives with her husband and two children in Los Altos. Pam serves as a Board member at the Whistlestop Child Development Center, a preschool located in Palo Alto. She is an active volunteer at her children’s school, where she organizes the school’s enrichment programs and chairs the garden committee. In addition, she leads her daughter’s Girl Scout troop and is passionate about education.
