Dr. Kajal Chowdhury is a patent attorney with over 10 years of experience in patent drafting and prosecution. He focuses his practice on life sciences (biotechnology, pharmaceutical, nanotechnology, and medical devices) with emphasis on startups and early-stage companies. He advises the startup companies in developing a patent strategy, freedom to operate issues, developing a robust patent portfolio in a cost-effective manner.
In his spare time, he mentors startup companies for their intellectual property needs (patents, licenses, confidentiality agreements) at the Springboard accelerator program of Connect in San Diego. Dr. Chowdhury has extensive experience working with early startup companies to large well-established companies. He worked at a major multinational law firm for many years and also as in-house patent attorney at Illumina Inc. Currently, he is a patent attorney at Synthetic Genomics Inc., in La Jolla, CA. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Dr. Chowdhury worked at several biotech companies including Millipore and published many peer-reviewed scientific articles.
He holds a J.D. from The George Washington University Law School, Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Rutgers University, and B.Sc. in Chemistry from University of Calcutta, India and was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School.
