Pando Nutrition, Inc. is a biotechnology startup dedicated to producing genetically modified microbes for nutritional and therapeutic applications in livestock. Pando Nutrition has a state-of-the-art laboratory located in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Their patent-pending technology revolves around anti-microbial technologies to address the growing concerns of antibiotic resistance and methane mitigation. They have successfully engineered over one hundred laboratory strains including a proprietary strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae that constitutively expresses an anti-microbial protein, delivering a healthier microbiome to poultry. Pando Nutrition has a team of PhDs and commercial livestock veterans including advisers from Purina and Archer Daniels Midland. Pando seeks to empower researchers and livestock producers with innovative technologies in the microbial/microbiome space. We are now looking for an experienced and motivated Strain Engineer to join us in our mission of producing Panbiotics®. By being one of our first employees, you will have significant say and responsibility in determining the success and outcomes of Pando. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-moving collaborative environment and will look to develop a proprietary platform for host organism engineering and screening with the purpose of improving target protein productivity.


What will you be doing:

  • Optimize current protein expression system and identify optimal expression system for the selected host organism
  • Apply state of the art genetic and genome engineering methods to create improved protein yield variants
  • Develop and apply selection and screening assays to identify best performing variants and growth conditions, leading to a high-throughput platform development
  • Develop and document new tools and methods
  • Collect, analyze and present data in company meetings
  • Cultivate knowledge bank of host organism and strain engineering literature

What we expect from you:

  • PhD or MSc (with +5 years experience) in Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology, Metabolic Engineering, or another relevant life science discipline
  • Hands-on experience with media and culturing optimization, molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, sequencing etc), genome editing techniques (homologous recombination, CRISPR etc), directed evolution methodology (assays design for selection and screening) and basic protein analysis methods (protein quantification assays, SDS-PAGE, WB)
  • Strong understanding of physiology and metabolism of one or more host organisms
  • Ability to design, perform and troubleshoot experiments independently
