Scaled Biolabs is seeking a talented Microfluidics/Automation Engineer. The engineer will have the unique opportunity to be a key visionary and architect of the hardware (instrument) and wetware (chips) used in our world-class platform, both in current and future projects. They will guide the current systems through their prototype stage into manufacturing- and market-ready embodiments. This role will facilitate Scaled Biolabs’ deployment and evolution of their Cell Therapy Discovery Engine to discover and develop transformative cell-based medicines. This is a full-time position.

Chief Technology Officer

  •  Comfortably and independently stage and execute iterative optimization campaigns using design-of-experiments statistical techniques and Scaled’s microfluidics enabled stem cell culture optimization technology
  •  Assume stewardship of our wetware and hardware platform in current laboratory production streams, ensure production of quality data across several programs and integrate with our data pipeline
  •  Understand, improve and iterate our chip and instrument designs to fit with long term goals, produce prototypes and define manufacturing strategies
  •  Manage relationships with key vendors and develop new ones, negotiate upgrades to chip production and define new
  •  Design, execute and report on experiments and overall scientific strategy in pursuit of achievement of grant milestones, supporting the Lead Scientist.
  •  Take on flexible responsibilities if and when necessary to play a role in the company’s overarching mission of delivering best-in-class cell therapies

  • Experience with microfluidics for cell culture and analysis, diagnostics, laboratory instrumentation or similar
  • Solid research output record of publications and/or patents, or industry or startup experience
  • “Process improvement” mindset and willingness to capture metadata to improve not just the science, but our fundamental approach as well
  • Enthusiasm for diving into non-standard, cutting-edge tools and techniques
  • Initiative and make-it-happen attitude to drive tangible results in a startup environment
  • Bachelor’s degree plus several years’ experience in a research academic or industrial position OR
  • Doctorate in chemical, mechanical or biological engineering or similar stream
  • Work authorization in the United States

  •  Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology and working with analytical tools to create quality data analyses
  •  High-throughput or high-content screening experience
  •  Scientific computing skillset (Python preferred)
