Scaled Biolabs is seeking a talented Bioengineer to drive progress in breakthrough cell-therapy programs underway in our laboratory, using our microfluidics-enabled cell-based assay platform to discover and develop transformative cell-based medicines. This bioengineer will use their expertise in cell-handling and microfluidics design and experimentation to make pivotal impacts on both our research programs, and our core platform. You will have the opportunity to be exposed to a range of innovative customer and internal programs using pluripotent cells to generate therapeutic cell lineages. This role will exploit Scaled Biolabs’ Cell Therapy Discovery Engine to discover and develop transformative cell-based medicines. This is a full-time position.

Lead Scientist

  • Design, execute and report on experiments and overall scientific strategy in pursuit of achievement of grant and project milestones, supporting the lead scientist.
  •  Execute iterative biological optimization campaigns using design of experiments (DOE) statistical techniques and Scaled’s microfluidics-enabled cell-based assay platform, as well as a data-centric approach
  •  Assume stewardship of our wetware and hardware platform in current laboratory production streams, ensure production of quality data across several programs and integrate with our data pipeline
  •  Devise and implement engineering upgrades to our platform, making improvements to our hardware (instrument) and wetware (chips)
  •  Manage the support of a research intern on the project
  •  Take on flexible responsibilities if and when necessary to play a role in the company’s overarching mission of delivering best-in-class cell therapies

  • Experience with microfluidics for cell culture and analysis
  •  Solid research output record of publications and/or patents
  •  “Process improvement” mindset and willingness to capture metadata to improve not just the science, but our fundamental approach as well
  •  Enthusiasm for diving into non-standard, cutting-edge tools and techniques
  •  Ability to complement academic rigor with a make-it-happen attitude to drive tangible results in a startup environment
  •  Bachelor’s degree plus several years’ experience in a research academic or industrial position OR
  •  Doctorate in chemical or biological engineering or similar stream
  •  Work authorization in the United States

  • Bioengineering skillset with particular applications in stem cell/developmental biology
  •  Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology and working with analytical tools to create quality data analyses
  •  High-throughput or high-content screening experience
  •  Scientific computing skillset (Python preferred)
  •  Industry experience
